UEFA EURO 2008™ Anti-Racism Campaign to be kicked-off on opening day in Basel

On the opening day of the UEFA EURO 2008TM the joint campaign „Unite Against Racism“ of the European network FARE – Football Against Racism in Europe and UEFA will be launched at the Hilton Hotel Basel. Representatives of the media are cordially invited to the FARE lunch reception on Saturday 7 June (Start: 12:30).

Senses Erzik, UEFA 1st Vice President, will lead the involvement of the football family together with esteemed players, NGOs and fans. Also in attendance will be Benedikt Weibel, Delegate of the Swiss Federal Council for EURO 2008 and Barbara Prammer, President of the Austrian National Council.

At the reception the activities FARE is organising during UEFA EURO 2008™ across Austria and Switzerland will be presented, including the first viewing of the video spot „Different Languages, One Goal – No To Racism” which will be played at all matches.

Esteemed ex-players including Ramon Vega former captain of the Swiss team and Tottenham Hotspur as well as Paul Elliott (Chelsea FC and Celtic FC), Anthony Baffoe (former Ghana captain) and Yves Eigenrauch (FC Schalke 04) will act as ambassadors against racism and take part at a Question and Answer session.

Jean-Claude Biver of Hublot, the offical timekeeper of UEFA EURO 2008TM will talk about Hublots’ donation of its perimeter board space in all stadiums to the campaign against racism.

At Hilton Basel (Salon de Nations, Aeschengraben 31, CH-4002 Basel) simultaneous interpretation into German and English will be provided.
