In 2011, we launched initiatives with young people about urban dance: hip-hop, house, new style, raga, zouk. Out of these initiatives, some of our young members continued developing their own project and they animate once a week 2 workshops for any young people that would like to learn about and enjoy dance. It is a team of 4 young people mainly with foreign roots due to immigration aged between 16 and 19 years old that is the most involved. We would like to give them opportunities to develop more by meeting with young people that develop skills in urban dance but also create a dialog between traditional and urban dances. Our young group is really interested to learn about other cultures in terms of dances and see how to create a dialog with urban dance and integrated in their own practices. They especially would like to meet young ones with Dervish culture but enjoying also urban dance; it is the same for Flamenco or traditional Greek dances. Maybe you have specific style to propose too. We would like to evaluate possibility to create a young in action project (action 1.1 – youth exchange or action 1.2 - international youth initiative or maybe 1.3 – youth and democracy). We are deeply thinking about a 1.2 international youth initiatives that will allow:
• To know better about “dance and youth” in the different countries (at least 2 or 3) including how they access to it;
• To know why in some places traditional dance is part of youth life while it is disregarded in other countries;
• To know how urban dance is understood in other countries and especially when implemented in public open space where young people are meeting each other’s;
• To learn technique;
• To see how to develop an original creation about dialog between cultures using dance as language and how dance can participate to the European construction ;
• To develop a movie talking about this experience and recording both original dance and reinterpretation under urban dance style.
The topic of the youth initiative could also be the fact that these young people are managing within our youth centre dance workshop for other young people. It could be a simple action allowing them to exchange with other young ones doing the same for their dance style about shy (the spirit), the technique and see together how to improve it while developing a bigger initiative. If you see how to make a successful 1.3 action it will be even better… As alternate action, we are planning to have a contact making seminar in January 2013 involving a dance leader and a young dancer from different organisations and countries. The objective is to develop new proposals and learn about future of youth policy after 2013. (see attached draft) As you know, unfortunately, the programme “Youth in action” will die at the end of 2013. It will be wised to use the remaining possibilities about action 1.2 and 1.3 that will not exist after 2013. Maybe your experience, your partnership or your network of partners could us to build a successful proposal for the 1st of October 2012.
