Objectives
The training course aims at developing the intercultural competencies of teachers and trainers in organizing international projects through exploration of cultural diversity beyond simulations:from a perspective of real everyday life and use of it as a tool to discover identity (become aware of your own culture so that you can open to others who are different).
OBJECTIVES:
- To develop teachers and trainers' knowledge and competence in key concepts of intercultural learning through exploration of cultural diversity from a perspective of everyday life;
- To enhance teachers'& trainers’ ability to use very different cultural environment as a tool, integrating it within their educational activities to discover identity;
- To acknowledge among teachers & trainers the importance that influence of culture has on person’s perception of reality, everyday behaviour and identity.
- To introduce to teachers & trainers with the approaches and activities of intercultural learning and possibilities to adapt them to their local contexts/pupils/learners and realities;
-To reflect about the importance of cultural diversity when organizing international projects; •To develop an informal network of teachers & trainers, in EU.
Methodology:
The concept of “Culture” is one of the most controversial phenomena in social sciences, having more than 200 accredited definitions and all of them considered to be correct. However, it’s impossible to look for definitions, without answering more personal and deeper questions related to our identities and how they work in the everyday mechanisms of society. These are the core themes of the project: Culture, Identity and Society reflected in day to day life, with a close look to the most modern developments in our common, European level. Approaching Cultural Diversity from perspective of differences in day to day life in this specific training course will mean discovery of food culture, clothing culture, time culture, music and dances culture, traditions and customs, jokes, personal culture, communication patterns, power, gender and sex, roles and all the other things that shape our everyday life (behaviour, identity, beliefs, values and rules) and all of them are deeply rooted in our culture. Therefore the focus will be to comprehend the importance of culture in everyday life, but also to understand that these set of regulations differ from group to group that one belongs to because these topics are essence of intercultural learning and are important part of becoming sensitive to differences that other cultures bring. Furthermore for the sake of recognizing and dealing with obstacles (stereotypes, prejudice, discrimination and violence) that occur during intercultural dialogue and finding possibilities for overcoming these problems, one first has to understand one’s own culture. Therefore, the overall learning aim of the training course is providing “real life” opportunities for teachers & trainers to develop their individual intercultural skills, which, in today's world, have become essential transversal skills for a national and international context. The project will use non-formal educational methods, using a participative and learner-centred approach
Preparation
Before the course, teachers & trainers participating will receive an info pack with the daily program and information of the venue and local context. Next to that they will be asked to fill in an on-line application form stating their motivation and previous experience in intercultural educational activities which will serve as learning needs assessment.
