Service Civil International and the No More War Team in cooperation with the European Youth Foundation are excited to introduce the study-session “Occupy Peace Online”. The aim of this study session is enabling activists to promote issues related to peace and non violence via online campaigning. We also want to enhance our capacities and networks to act as a global movement for peace. Reflecting on past campaigns, we can develop ideas on how to best venture into the digital campaigning future. At the same time the massive amount of information load challenges us all in regards of information / knowledge management and communication. Background information
Service Civil International is an international peace and volunteering organisation with 46 branches and more than eighty partners world-wide. The main method used by SCI to promote peace and justice are short and long term international voluntary service projects. Furthermore we organise seminars and trainings to foster our objectives such as volunteering, non-violence, human rights, solidarity, respect for the environment, inclusion, empowerment and cooperation. We facilitators are all very active volunteers of different European SCI branches and felt the need to connect and communicate much better online to live up to our potential as international peace organisation. We also noticed within our organisations a lack of skills concerning online campaigning which has proven crucial many times recently during the Arabic Spring, anti-ACTA-protests and is more and more being used by human rights groups like avaaz and allout. Therefore we are very happy that the EYC approved our study session application and that we can now invite you to join us in a week-long process of discussing and working on how to create, maintain and evaluate online campaigns within SCI and with all relevant external actors.
