The training course "Boys don't Cry. Mainstreaming Gender in Youth Work” is designed for twenty-two youth leaders, youth workers and educators to develop learning competences aimed at mainstreaming gender in youth work through Human Rights Education and Non-Formal Education methodologies. The course of eight days, is part of the "Eastern Youth Window" programme and it is promoted by youth organizations in Estonia, Lithuania, Belarus, Romania, Georgia, Armenia, and coordinated by the Association of Human Rights Educators.
The Course
Through the course we will:
• explore how youth work can provide tools to challenge predetermined gender roles, contributing actively to de-construct sexist attitudes;
• introduce Human Rights Education methodologies and implement approaches and activities that support the role of youth work in this area;
• exchange best practices, raise awareness and develop competences in key concepts for mainstreaming gender in youth work;
• develop ideas for incorporating gender perspectives in youth work and at community level, and promote the qualitative development of the activities of the Youth in Action programme.
Profile of the participants
The Training Course is designed for a diverse group for twenty-two youth leaders, youth workers and educators directly working with young people with fewer opportunities such as young people from rural areas, unemployed youth, young people from linguistic and ethnic minorities,... Partner countries for this course are Estonia, Lithuania, Belarus, Romania, Georgia, Armenia, and Spain. Previous experience on the Youth in Action programme is not a must. Participants should be ready for an intercultural experience and interested in developing strategies supporting learning development aiming at fostering civic and human rights. Attending participants should be willing to become agents of change in their organisations and communities. Participants will be selected by the preparatory team according to their Application form. The selection will ensure to have a group with organisational and geographical diversity and gender balance.
Team of trainers
The programme of the course is designed and conducted by a multicultural team of experienced trainers from the Pool of the Youth Directorate of the Council of Europe. They may be complemented by resource experts for specific parts of the course.
Costs:
The 70 % of travel expenses are reimbursed. Board and lodging for the duration of the Training Course will be provided and paid for by the Organisers. An enrolment fee is payable by each participant.
