This 9-day training course "Empowering U2 lead Uth" (Empowering you to lead youth) will be held in Madeira Island (Portugal) and is inviting youth workers and youth leaders to explore the concept of leadership. As part of the course, we will look at the basics (definition, styles,) the personal application of leadership (leadership begins with oneself) and its application to the young people that youth workers / leaders work with (Empowering others, active participation, project management, communication). This training course is targeted at new youth leaders who have recently become involved in youth work in a leadership capacity. Our aim is to develop their confidence and capacity to develop their leadership and motivational skills. It will be a training course for 26 participants (youth leaders or youth workers) from 13 different countries (Bulgaria, Estonia, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, The Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Spain, Switzerland and Portugal). During this course, participants will engage in a number of activities where they will gain an increased awareness of their leadership style and their privileged role when working with young people. They will develop the skills, knowledge and attitudes that leaders require to impact positively on the lives of young people. The methods that we will use are those of non- formal education, so learning will be through discussions, group work, interactive workshops, exchange of experience, creative process and experimentation and reflection times. Previous editions in Switzerland, Spain and Ireland were a big success for the participants who increased their awareness of their own leadership styles and how to integrate this gained knowledge into the work in their community.
Some of the comments from participants following previous editions in were:
• “ Now I think I can make anything happen”;
• In learning outcomes: “Learning who I am”;
• “People in your association will benefit from this. They will have more trust into someone that feels sure about what they’re doing”;
• "Don’t tell the students what to do, let them discover by themselves. In this course I’ve learned a lot and never been told what to do";
• "I expected to learn some new things about leadership but I got that + more other important things!!!";
• "This training helps me to recognize my competences as youth leader. Now, after this training I’m feeling better prepared to lead and coach in my organization".

• To assist participants in the personal self- development of their leadership competencies;
• To enable participants to understand and trust their own ability to inspire young people;
