Details:
“Citizen's effect” is a training course within the EU programme Youth in Action (Action 4.3). It is organized and promoted by “Ung och Aktiv i Umeå”, an informal group with the objective of promoting the Youth in Action programme in the city of Umeå. This group has been cooperating closely with the Italian social cooperative Muovimente, which has been involved in and promoting a series of projects about sustainability and positive social change, and the project itself has its roots in these experiences. The European years of citizens offers us the possibility of exploring the concept of sustainability in tandem with that of citizenship. Therefore, citizenship will not be seen only as a legal construct but also as belonging, participation, awareness, engagement and responsibility. It will be the thread that will guide us through the TC and it will culminate with the concept of European citizenship. Hopefully, at the end of the course we will be more aware of our role as citizens and as agents of positive social change. Beside the exploration of this overarching theme, there will be also the possibility of strengthening the network created in the previous projects and extend it to new members. Strong emphasis will be placed on non-formal education and experiential activities. Innovative inputs and working methods will be suggested to create the ideal conditions for learning and reflection, plus the course will be centred on the concept of the "domino workshops": every day, programme space will be offered to participants to take the initiative and suggest a topic, or a method, and lead a workshop. The concept is adapted from the model of SALTO's tool fairs. The course will involve 29 participants between trainers, staff and participants from 9 programme countries. We already have participants from Sweden, Italy, Czech Republic, Greece, Denmark, Hungary and Romania. We are looking for participants from Poland and the UK. It will take place in Umeå, a city in Northern Sweden, from the 25th of November till the 2nd of December 2013.

The hosting organisation will cover accomodation and food. It will also reimburse 70% of the travel expenses according to the Youth in Action guidelines. A participation fee of 30 Euro is expected.
